Tri-State County Fair Youth Livestock Sale
On the 5th of August 2017, Greer Lime actively participated in the Tri-State County Fair Youth Livestock Sale in Petersburg, West Virginia. It was a fine summer day; a golden glow spread across the sky, as the sun chased the dark clouds away. Young children devoured their sweets and snacks. Their ice creams wobbled perilously over the cones and slipped down their small fingers as they melted. Some even munched on cotton candy. The adults enjoyed a few cold beverages and delicious food. However, the stars of the show were enthusiastic children from the ages of 9-19, eager to showcase their animals. The children exhibiting had worked diligently prior to the fair, in order to maintain the animals. They ensured immaculate grooming, feeding and training of the livestock. The money that is raised in the Livestock Sale goes directly to the children who raise the animals Most of the children seek funds for useful activities like funding their tuition at their prospective universities.
Since its inception over 50 years ago, Greer Lime has taken an active interest in the community, whether it be participation in the Trout Rodeo Project, building Baseball fields for the community, or participating in several community fairs among various activities. Greer Lime was represented by the omnipresent plant manager, Mr Kyle Apple. Greer Lime employees Doug Carr and Leroy Vance also played a key role representing Greer Lime. Their children, Jamie Carr and Haley Vance, were active participants in the livestock sale, respectively. The Greer Lime team bid successfully for 23 animals (3 steers, 3 goats, 7 lambs and 10 hogs) and was one of the major contributors at the event. Prior to this, Greer Lime has also been active at the event for many years. Greer Lime will continue to accomplish its goals of serving society and will continue to be an active member of the community.
